Austin Symphony Launches Chamber Music Series with Artisan String Quartet

     The Austin Symphony Orchestra introduces the new Artisan Series of chamber music concerts this season, featuring principal players of the Austin Symphony. The inaugural concert by the Artisan String Quartet will be held on Thursday, September 27th, at the Smith Family Chapel at Riverbend Church, featuring works by Haydn, Mendelssohn and

       The quartet composed of principal Symphony players Paula Bird and Richard Kilmer on violin, Bruce Williams on viola and Douglas Harvey on cello.  In its brief history, The Artisan Quartet has already performed many concerts around Central Texas, including at the Victoria Bach Festival, the Incarnate Word University in San Antonio, the Blanco Performing Arts Association Series, the Twilight Series (Jonestown/Lago Vista), the Santa Cecilia Series (Austin), Texas State University (San Marcos) and the Salon Concert Series (San Antonio).  
       The Quartet was invited by MidAmerica Productions to make its Carnegie Hall debut in March 2012, performing to rave reviews on the Weill Hall Chamber Music Series to a sold-out audience.   The Artisan's will also perform throughout Austin this fall with their own "Genius at Play" Series, featuring the complete string quartets of Beethoven.
     The inaugural Artisan Series concert program will include:
- "String Quartet in D Minor, Op. 76 No. 2 'Die Quinten'" by Haydn,
- "String Quartet in A Minor, Op. 13 'Ist es Wahr'" by Mendelssohn and
- "String Quartet in D Major, Op. 11 'Accordion'" by Tchaikovsky.
     Tickets are $30 for general admission.  The concert begins at 8 p.m.
