Viol Intentions: Music for
Violas da Gamba
La Follia Austin
October 6th and 7th
First Presbyterian Church

La Follia Austin Baroque launches their 2012-13 Season with the concert "Viol Intentions: Music for Violas da Gamba," featuring a special guest appearance by countertenor Ryland Angel.  The concert of classical music plays October 6th and 7th at the First Presbyterian Church.
Described as a cross a cello and a guitar, the instruments of the viola da gamba family are a completely different animal and has been experiencing a rebirth in recent years - thanks to the growing influence of early music and superstar performers such as Jordi Savall.  La Follia Austin Baroque features the unusual and beautiful instrument - both solo and in ensemble - in a concert exploring the wealth and diversity of its music.
Featuring the talents of Austin's local violists da gamba as well as visiting artists, the program includes songs for viol consort, sung by countertenor Ryland Angel, as well as a performance of Bach's sixth "Brandenburg Concerto" - which features violas da gamba, violas and cellos.
Performances will be October 6th at 8 p.m. and October 7th at 3 p.m.  A pre-concert lecture on gambas will be presented 15 minutes before curtain.  Tickets are $20 for general admission, $18 for seniors and $10 for students.
The First Presbyterian Church is located at 8001 Mesa Drive.  For tickets and more information, call (512) 879-6404 or visit
