October 6th
Northwest Hills United Methodist Church

The Austin Classical Guitar Society opens its 18th International Concert Series with the Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet in concert on Saturday, October 6th.  The season opening concert will be held at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, beginning at 8 p.m.
Thirty-two years young in 2012-13, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet is one of the most multi-faceted groups in any genre.  Comprised of John Dearman, Matthew Greif, William Kanengiser and Scott Tennant, the four uniquely accomplished musicians bring a new energy to the concert stage with programs ranging from Bluegrass to Bach.  Their inventive programs including Latin, African, Far East, Irish, Folk and American classics that transport listeners around the world in a single concert experience.
In March of this year, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet played a series of concerts with guitar orchestras, featuring a new work by Kyoto-based composer/guitarist Shingo Fujii.  The piece, entitled "Shiki: Seasons of Japan," was dedicated to the victims of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
Winner of a 2005 Grammy Award, the quartet's Guitar Heroes CD proved a brilliant follow-up to their Grammy-nominated album LAGQ Latin.  Their album Spin - released in Spring 2006 - continued their explorations of jazz and contemporary music.  LAGQ Brazil included collaborations with vocalist Luciana Souza, and their newest recording of the Rodrigo "Concierto Andaluz" and Sergio Assad's "Interchange," written specifically for them, was released in Spring 2010 and quickly climbed to top spot on the Billboard charts.
Tickets for the concert are $50 for preferred seating within the first four rows, $35 for general admission, and $25 for seniors 60+ and students with valid I.D.  A pre-concert will be offered at Chez Zee at 5:30 p.m. for $55 per person by reservation only.
