     The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance continues their 2012-13 Season with The Scarlet Letter.  Based on the novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the production runs October 19th through 28th in the B. Iden Payne Theatre.
     Protagonist Hester Prynne comes to the stage in a reimagining of Hawthorne’s classic tale.  The staging is adapted by Sarah Saltwick and directed by Steven Wilson
     Sarah Saltwick is a playwriting and fiction Michener Fellow at The University of Texas at Austin.  Her work has been presented, developed or produced by Paper Chairs Theatre Company, Scriptworks, WordBRIDGE, Bristol Riverside Theater, Shrewd Productions, Last Frontier Theatre Conference and Moving Arts.
    Prior to his study at The University of Texas at Austin,  director Steven Wilson spent 15 years working throughout Chicago as an actor, director and educator.  His directing credits include The Transition of Doodle Pequeño (UT Austin), A Very Merry Unauthorized Children’s Scientology Pageant (A Red Orchid Theatre), The 13th of Paris (LiveWire Chicago Theatre)  and Orange Flower Water (No Name Players).  Most recently, he was the assistant director for Dividing The Estate at ZACH Theatre, where he also works as a teaching artist.   Wilson is a Master of Fine Arts candidate at The University of Texas at Austin.
     Performances will run November 16th, 17th, 29th, 30ht, December 1st, 5th, 6th and 7th at 8 p.m., and November 18th and December 2nd at 2 p.m.  Tickets are $15 to $25.
     The B. Iden Payne Theatre is located in the Winship Building at 300 East 23rd Street on the University of Texas campus.
