Monday Movies Under the Stars
June 4th through 25th
VORTEX Repertory Theatre
The VORTEX Repertory
Theatre continues their free “Movies Under the
Stars” series during the month of May with blockbuster
films of summers’ past. The free screenings play
each Monday night, starting at 8 p.m.
The June selections
include:
June 4th: 27 Beetlejuice (1989)
Adam and Barbara are a normal
couple...who happen to be dead. They have given their
precious time to decorate the house and make it their own, but
unfortunately a family is moving in, and not quietly.
Adam and Barbara try to scare them out, but end up
becoming the main attraction to the money-making family.
They call upon the departed Beetlejuice to help, but
Beetlejuice has more in mind than just helping.
June 18th: Splash (1984)
The story begins in 1959, when an
adolescent mermaid rescues young Allen Bauer from a watery
grave off of Cape Cod. Twenty-five years later, the boy has
grown up, and, upon returning to the cape, he once again
manages to fall into the sea and is rescued once more by the
mermaid. She decides to travel to New York to search for Allen.
On dry land, the mermaid is able to walk about on legs;
any contact with salt water, and she reverts to her half-fish
form. Adopting the name of Madison from a New York street sign,
the girl manages to win Allen’s heart. Alas, a
secret government lab captures Madison for research purposes
– and possible vivisection. Egged on by his
brother, Allen rescues his beloved, joining her in the ocean
depths as a merman.
June 25th: Ghostbusters (1984)
Three oddball scientists get kicked out
of their cushy positions at a university in New York City where
they studied the occult. They decide to set up shop in an old
firehouse and become Ghostbusters, trapping pesky ghosts,
spirits, haunts and poltergeists for money. They
wisecrack their way through the city, but when a downtown
skyscraper becomes the focal point of spirit activity linked to
the ancient god, Gozer, the problem may be more than the team
can handle.
Some seating will be
provided, with lawn chairs and blankets recommended. No
outside food or drink will be permitted, but The Butterfly Bar
will be open for business with snacks and beverages.
Theme dressing for each movie is encouraged.
The VORTEX Theatre is
located at 2307 Manor Road. For tickets and more
information, call (512) 478-LAVA (5282) or visit www.VortexRep.org.
