                        The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas Rare Wine Auction
    It’s one of the most-popular events at the Texas Hill Country Food and Wine Festival, and it sells out every year.  Having barely survived the gut-busting “Stars Across Texas” the night before, we press our luck and checked out the third annual “Big Dog Reds” event at III Forks.

     As the name implies, the event is nothing but red wine - lots and lots of red wine.  We met Danny Payne - III Forks Dining Room Manager and Wine Director -and we discussed the lack of downtown restaurants participating in the previous night’s “Star Across Texas,” despite the event being only blocks away.  Some of the favorites we sampled included wonderful Cabernets by Pepper Ridge, William Hill Estate, Provenance Vineyards, and Wente Family Estates.  But the “freakshow” blends from Four Vines were our favorite.
    That evening, we honored the gracious invitation from Executive Director Rebecca Robinson to attend The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas Rare Wine Auction at the Four Seasons.  We chatted with Sandra Spaulding and Mitch Mooney from Twin Liquors over champagne and hors deourves, while perusing the auction items.
   The Four Seasons’ chefs created an amazing dinner of heavy hors d'oeuvres, and the auction bidding was lively - and for a good cause.  Proceeds from the annual event benefit KLRU-TV Public Television, in addition to the Foundation’s scholarships and grants and the development of culinary and viticulture arts programs and projects throughout Texas.
