February 16, 2009: Busy Week Ahead!
It’s going to
be a busy week for your social reporter. The media
preview for the Bob Bullock Texas
History Museum’s new
immigration exhibit - “Forgotten Gateway: Coming to
America Through Galveston Island” -
is Tuesday evening, and I’m anxious to see how it turned
out. Not only did my mother’s family immigrate from
Sweden through Galveston, but my mother and I contributed a
video presentation of our family history for the exhibit.
Austin’s Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo launches its
marketing blitz with a media dinner hosted by Hill’s
Café. Then Thursday afternoon, catch StandardAnswer.com website owner Marc Erwin and me in a double live
interview with the Austin
Barnes for his popular “Out and About” column.
Friday brings the
“Taste Washington” event at the downtown Hilton,
where 55 Washington State wineries will be pouring more than 200 unique wines.
Hors d’oeuvres will be catered from several local
establishments, including Dagar’s Catering, Dona
Emilia’s Latin Cafe Austin, NoRTH Modern Italian Cuisine,
Roy’s, Stubb’s and Finn & Porter. The
event is open to the public from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with tickets
available through the Wine & Food Foundation of Texas.
Visit www.WineFoodFoundation.org for tickets and information.
That same evening, the VIP
Director’s Circle Preview Party for the Blanton Art
new “Birth of the Cool”
exhibit happens simultaneously with the Bob Bullock’s
members’ and sponsors’ reception for their new exhibit.
So we’ll be bouncing back-and-forth across the MLK
and Congress intersection all evening.
And to top it off, our
apartment is going to be gutted so that the ceiling and
bathroom walls can be replaced. So we’ll be
shuttling between Austin and Seguin, where husband
JoeLane’s father has a second home that we’ll
invade for a few days.
