March 13, 2009: A Ride with Bob at The Long Center
To quote Bob Wills, “nothing matters but the music.”  And the Wills biography musical A Ride with Bob proves to be one of the best nights of music we’ve experienced in a long time.
Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel lead a stellar cast of actors, singers and musicians -
most performing all three roles - in a home-grown show that has toured the nation and played the Kennedy Center.  We missed the original run at the State Theatre (before the flood put the State back in mothballs), so we were very excited that the tour came home to The Long Center this weekend.
The music is amazing, and the combination of the cast’s incredible talents and the Long Center’s spectacular acoustics make this show one of the best of the season.  The opening night audience was filled with SXSW musicians, who roared their - truly justified - approval of every tune.  Every performer is a stand-out, and every Bob Wills song shines.  Don’t miss this show!

Celebrity Alert:  We didn’t spy the anticipated Dennis Quaid and Billy Bob Thorton at tonight’s performance, but we did one better - we got to sit with Greater Tuna star - and 1995 Tony Award nominee - Joe Sears!  He told us that Tuna Does Vegas is destined for a run in Sin City itself, and we plan to bring you an interview with Joe in the near future.
