Performing Arts Center 2009/10 Season Preview Party
Kathy Panoff is a
hoot. The newly-hired director of the UT
Performing Arts Center introduced
the upcoming season of events and shows to a very appreciative

Hall stage, Kathy regaled us with personal stories and funny

Texas, possesses great artistic skill and knowledge, and - most
importantly - understands the
The 2009/10 season for
UTPAC is very eclectic, without the usual
“headline” acts that it has sported in the past -
with the exception of opera tenor Jose Carreras. There
will be new compositions from Pulitzer Prize winner Steve Reich
and Dj Spooky,
graphic comic grandmasters Art Spiegelman and Robert Crumb, and
international performance groups including the all-male New
Zealand dance troupe Black Grace and
South Africa’s Soweto Gospel Choir.
I think Panoff will
be a good fit for the Performing Arts Center. Her
personality and background is perfect for Austin, and she can
help UTPAC develop an identify that will make it unique among
Austin’s growing arts presenters.
The party was marvelous,
with a delicious - and abundant - buffet by Elmer Prambs of the
Four Seasons Hotel. We made new friends, caught up with old
acquaintances, and generally enjoyed the evening.
